India dethrones England in 15 days to become World No. 1 T20I team

India has regained the top position in the ICC T20I team rankings, dethroning England just 15 days after losing the spot. The Men in Blue had slipped to second place following a series of defeats against Ireland and England under captain Shreyas Iyer. However, consecutive victories in the ongoing three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe pushed India back to the summit with 16,088 points and a 268 rating.

The ranking revival was sealed on Saturday after India secured a dominant 90-run victory over Zimbabwe in the second T20I at the Harare Sports Club. Batting first, India posted a formidable total of 219/5 in 20 overs, driven by explosive half-centuries from wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan (81 off 44) and Tilak Varma (unbeaten 60 off 29). In response, Zimbabwe was bundled out for 129 runs in 17.5 overs, with Abhishek Sharma picking up three wickets alongside two scalps each from debutants Yash Thakur and Prince Yadav.

With this victory, India built an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, marking Shreyas Iyer's first T20I series win as captain. England now sits in second place on the ranking table, followed by Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa in the top five. The final T20I of the series will be played at the same venue in Harare.
